Color treated hair is hair that has undergone any color treatment, including all-over hair color. Below are some tips to maintain a single-process hair color:
Color should be touched up every six weeks
Make sure to use color-safe shampoo after treatment.
Avoid using heat as it washes out the color.
Avoid ingredients such as sulfate, parabens, sodium chloride, and petrochemicals. Sulfates are used in shampoos to give it a bubbly lather, but they end up removing too much oil from the scalp.
Turn down water temperature when shampooing. When washing your hair with hot water, the hair cuticle is opened, allowing color to wash out with shampoo and conditioner.
Use leave-in treatments to protect your hair when styling. Colored hair needs extra hydration and protection from the sun to prevent hair damage and nutrient loss, so adding a leave-in product will help replenish that hydration.
Avoid chlorine and salt water. Chlorine is a chemical agent that will strip your hair of color.
